Cell Phone Health Risks

I read an article on Electromagnetic Fields, by Dr. Mercola, which pointed out the dangers of cell phone use to the human body ; similar to the dangers of tobacco use and not widely known. I tried to copy all or part of the article; but for some reason that function was blocked.

Several important issues are worth mentioning as a “carrot” that will entice you to go read the original article. Cell phones are not a danger to the operation of airplanes by interfering with flight controls or communications; the real danger has to do with microwaves bouncing around the cabin and destroying humans inside the airplane; bet you didn’t know that.

Never use cell phones or laptop computers on airplanes because the metal skin of the plane acts just like a microwave oven and irradiates the body. It doesn’t matter if the plane is in the air or on the ground, the potential damaging emissions are the same.

The Cellular Telephone Industry Association (CTIA) paid big bucks for a research program that would give them a clean bill of health; much to their surprise the information came back just the opposite. Here’s where I wish I could have simply cut and pasted from the original article.

“A nearly 300 percent increase in the incidence of genetic damage when human blood cells were exposed to radiation in the cellular frequency band.

A significant increase in cell phone user’s risk of brain tumors at the brain’s outer edge, on which ever side the cell phone was held most often.

A 60 percent greater chance of acoustic neuromas, a tumor affecting the nerve that controls hearing, among people who had used cell phones for six years or more…”

There’s more; children should NEVER use a cellular device except in a real emergency because they are more vulnerable to damaging microwave bursts emitted by such devices. Their skulls are thinner ( hard to believe, I know ) and their still developing brains and nervous systems allow penetration all the way to the mid-brain, where tumors are more deadly.

I only put in a small portion of the warnings regarding damage to humans who use cell phones, warnings the CTIA are aware of, and yet how many of us have considered this aspect of our daily routines as life threatening? If you think the tobacco industry fought to keep their “customers” in the dark regarding the dangers of their product, how much is being kept from the public, either through intentional silence or straight out cover up now that we live in an age of cell phones and WIFI connections? GO READ THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE!

So why isn't some crusading reporter out to make a name for himself by breaking this story? You'd think *some* media outlet would be all over this!

Peter, I'm waiting for some kind of huge liability law suit to get filed, nothing like big bucks to bring out the buzzards (media).

I will have to find the youtube video I saw some time back, the one where some college kids aimed their cell phones at popping corn and made it cook by just calling their phones. At the time I thought it might be some kind of hoax; not so sure now...

Best not to use the wretched things if you ask me, i have a cell phone, but i don't always carry it with me, it's like an electronic leash, you can never be free of contact.

This debate has been raging in NZ since the first proposal to erect a cellphone tower outside someone's home. Peter, check the European news for full coverage starting about ten years back.

There is a (serious) government funded research project to monitor any likely dangers to health.

Personally I have no qualms about cellphones. But I would not sleep with one under the pillow. Mine gets used about twice a year...

To work out how much power a cellphone uses, stick one (switched on of course) alongside an ordinary radio. Every so often (about three hours) you will hear on the radio a "dit dit-dit dit..." static as the cellphone checks in with the network. Shift the phone 1 metre away and you might hear it. At 2 metres - nothing. The power output is about 0.3 watts; a microwave is about 1200 watts.

The very irreverent thought has just occurred to me...

You believe this and not global warming?

;)

I hate phones any way. I don't carry one hardly ever and the one I have is a Verizon.
Don't BTW believe their add. They don't have the coverage they say they do. Get a little ways off the beaten path and you get nuthing.

Plus I can't get coverage here in Scogee and roaming is out as well.

Talk about false advertising.

In an age where information is easily obtained or obtainable, I find fault with any industry which intentionally hides critical information from the public in order to increase profits at the expense of safety. The tobacco industry did it, the asbestos industry has done it, tire manufacturers continue to hide data through codes that most of the public is unaware of how to reduce regarding the date a tire was produced and the list goes on and on.

When such safety issues are exposed I don't feel the civil courts are enough; believing that in some cases criminal proceedings would act as a deterrent when some six figure CEO was carted off to the slammer.

...an no, I have not sipped the koolaid served by the church of global warming...lol

Oh I believe you. I had heard many years ago that cell phones increae the risk of brain tumors.

It has got to be like everything else though.

In moderation. The current craze with cell phones is off the hook.

Pun intended:).

The most important thing, TF, is as the IPCC has "just discovered". It is the validity of the research and investigation that backs the statement.

In the case of the tobacco industry it took 20 years and more of research before anyone would even consider the link between smoking and lung cancer and heart disease.

In the case of asbestos, the link to silicosis (which they had to invent to distinguish from black lung) was equally hard to prove scientifically.

About the tyres. Never heard that one before. The rule here is "Don't buy Chinese". Looks like just another global warming scare to me.
