Baby Sitting Grandchildren

We had JJ and Jocelyne over this evening and through the morning so their parents can attend a wedding. Lucy picked them up and took them grocery shopping with her on the way home. The meatball sampling at the grocery store must not have set well with JJ as he puked it up just before they got home; yuk!

Jocelyne and I watched E.T., something she’d enjoyed with me once before. The movie, when watched with and by a four year old is more fun, more emotional, more scary, and more entertaining all around. Jocelyne remembered the part where E.T. popped his head up from behind the television and spoke the letter “B”.

“Be good”, Jocelyne repeated, a serious look on her face as she nodded in agreement. I fielded questions and listened to her express joy, sadness and laughter as the movie offered a variety of opportunities. The scene where E.T. went into the refrigerator and makes a mess was one of her favorites as she agreed that he shouldn’t throw food on the floor or drink beer.

Jocelyne waited to see the part where Elliot flies in front of the moon on his bike while on the way to set up the “phone home machine” out in the woods. She was all upset when Elliot and E.T. got visited by all those doctors and watched the flowers wilt as E. T. was put in the cold storage box.

I’d have to say Jocelyne was able to take in nearly all the important aspects of the movie without my help; her having “felt” the movie, even when she wasn’t quite sure what had happened.

They have gone off to sleep, perchance to dream; think I’ll hold off watching Hamlet with her until she’s a bit older.
