Quoting an article written by Maurine Proctor in Meridian Magazine,
“Texas is a state where more than 70% of the voters are in favor of traditional marriage, so you’d think that passing a constitutional amendment protecting marriage would be a slam-dunk.
Not so. The November 8 ballot represents an off-year election with typically lower turnout, and those opposing the amendment are planning to turn out in high numbers.”
There have been vigorous attempts to horns waggle, prevaricate and outright lie about the particulars that that are covered in Proposition 2. I have heard one line which claims that the amendment is worded so poorly as to do away with all legal forms or marriage.
“In reality, the amendment would write into the state constitution the following:
a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one
woman.
b) The state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.”
The fact is that those who would pervert the meaning of marriage could only succeed by lies, prevarication and horns waggling. Honesty is not in there play book.
"Save Texas Marriage” is a group supporting same-sex marriage that has mounted a purposely deceptive phone campaign. They call people and claim: “I’m a volunteer for Save Texas Marriage, calling to let you know that the Texas Legislature made a blunder in writing Proposition #2, the gay marriage amendment. Any activist judge could easily use the language to overturn traditional marriage and cause people to lose health insurance, tax breaks and pensions. Current law protects everyone’s marriage. Don’t risk it, vote against it!”
Pro-family groups are calling this effort an all-out fraud.”
Make sure you Vote for Proposition 2 and send a message that Texas intends to follow God’s laws!
